Tonight I told my ex-husband that I’d bought our boys suits for his funeral 6 months ago. At 42, he had very nearly drunk himself to death on Bud Light. His belly was distended, needing to be drained regularly, his skin was yellow, his legs were swollen and red, the pores on his legs oozed fluid. His brain was actively being poisoned by the ammonia that his liver could no longer process out. All symptoms of end-stage liver failure. If you google it, the outlook is not good. An over-producer in times of stress, I figured it would be easier to get the boys measured for suits prior to the throes of grieving the loss of their dad.
